Monterey’s M5 erases the distinction between sporty bowriders and spacious deck boats. It combines sleek lines with a wide beam and a faceted design that makes it one of the most distinctive deck boats on the water.

If the racy exterior revs your motor, the spacious and luxurious interior will speak to the pamper-me-with-luxury crowd. The captain gets a swiveling bucket seat with a mesh back for cool running and a stellar view. Passengers get wraparound seating and a transom walk-through to a swim platform for water-sports fun. The M5’s head compartment springs James Bond-style out of the passenger console by swinging the console face outward on durable chrome hinges.

Monterey now uses Fusion stereos, and our tester was the first to be equipped with its newest waterproof remote panel that gives full function controls while keeping the stereo head safely away from moisture.

Stowage includes an aft toy trunk that will hold more boards than you can ride. And, there’s an optional transom shower to rinse clean and refresh.

Our power package gave rewarding acceleration and, for riders, an inboardlike feel, optimally balanced between a smooth big-water ride and an ample sporty wake.
