Cobalt 26SD

Inventive seating and luxury mark this boat as top-notch.

Cobalt’s 26SD reminds us of a new Cadillac Escalade. It’s as utilitarian as other sport utes, but with more elegance and style. Logic obviously became the byword for the designers, since they came up with the perfect bow-ladder design for beach access when nosed into a sandbar. The signature Cobalt swim platform with swim step makes the aft end of the boat every bit as functional.

We praised the 26SD’s cockpit. Bow seating provides superb cushioning as well as lateral support in a choose-your-sun-pad-or-seat configuration. The helm sports glossy wood veneers and leather-wrapped wheel. A spacious head with solid surface counter and sink will satisfy even the fussiest boater. You can also choose an aft-deck sun pad or forward-facing seat, much the way you can convert the portside settee/companion seat. Finally, the minigalley with sink, more faux stone, and an optional refrigerator to complement loads of storage make for plush and comfortable weekend outings.

Lest you think otherwise, the 26SD carves turns crisply, tracks like a monorail and offers an amazingly smooth, dry ride even in an ugly, close-together chop.

We are convinced that in its milieu, there’s nothing the 26SD cannot do.
