There’s a new name engraved upon Boating‘s prestigious Boat of the Year trophy: Cruisers Sport Series 328.

Our rigorous Boat of the Year selection process includes making sure candidate boats possess robust construction, crisp handling and adherence to the standards set by the American Boat and Yacht Council. Boats in contention must also meet the most stringent rigging standards, boast excellence in design and construction and, most importantly, fulfill the demands of the mission for boats in their category. So much the better if the boat is a “category killer.”

The 328 stands out in a new and burgeoning category of extra-large bowriders. These possess open-water ride capability. They feature enormous, amenity-laden cockpits ideal for day cruising with a large crowd. Despite the “day boat” moniker often used to describe them, these boats also boast overnight accommodations belowdecks.

For its good performance during our test; for being fastidiously rigged and ruggedly built; for utilizing a unique cockpit layout incorporating an off-center walkway to the bow, head and cabin in the same belowdecks space, and an aft cockpit that changes to suit the needs of the moment; in short, for leading with innovation and excellence in a brand-new boat category and doing so without being the highest-priced boat in that category, we name Cruisers Sport Series 328 Boating‘s 2013 Boat of the Year.
