Best Boats of 2010: Sea Ray 450 Sundancer

The 450 Sundancer excels at a variety of cruising missions.

Made the List Because: Ski boats, fish boats and speedboats all have very clear missions, making it easy to know how the boat will be used. A big cruiser is a different beast. One owner might cross horizons on family vacations, while another might enjoy sitting at the yacht club slip. One couple might enjoy quiet sunset jaunts. Another might have the gang aboard. Sea Ray’s 450 Sundancer made our list because it excels at all these cruising missions. Sea Ray knew people’s “cruising” probably includes all these activities in one measure or another.

The enclosed bridge deck, the sumptuous salon and the aft-cabin “media room” allow this boat to sleep a crowd, yet the cruiser retains an open and fluid layout that’s as perfect for entertaining as for use as a “couple’s boat.” Shoji doors and solid-wood cabinets mark its luxury. Excellent serviceability and top-notch components mark its quality. It rides soft outside the inlet and offers excellent range. It’s a boat for all the ways you cruise.

Lasting Test Impression: Efficiency remains the same from 24 mph to WOT. Run fuel economy is appreciably the same at any speed.
