Our experiences with Kayot's deck boats are easy to remember. Two reasons: 1. The open, windshieldless cockpits add a performance aura to each mph achieved; and 2. The mphs add up quickly. The new D226 has a similar configuration to the deck boats for which Kayot is known. The single console makes the driver and passengers feel like they're, well, riding in a boat. You sit high above the deck instead of being encased in fiberglass and windshield glass.
The D226 adds a few new dimensions to a lineup that earned Kayot a 2007 Customer Satisfaction Index award from the NMMA. The console stretches forward because it houses a deep storage compartment and privacy enclosure, which can become a head with the optional portable toilet. They've also integrated a spot for an optional galley on the port side. But the option that makes the most sense to us with this open floor plan is the fishing package (rod box, livewell, fishing seats). With that we'd also take a hard look at the outboard version of the D226, which would allow shallow maneuvering and guarantee some flying hair at top end.
