Regal 42 Sport Coupe

Regal’s 42 Sport Coupe was carefully designed to deliver optimum performance when matched with Volvo’s IPS 400 drives.

When Regal Marine Industries set out to expand its new Sport Coupe series, the design team began with a singular point of reference. “From the beginning,” explains Regal president Duane Kuck, “the 42 Sport Coupe was designed around the Volvo IPS 400.”

Optimization began by determining ideal size and hull configuration, then shifted to weight reduction and placement. Advanced composite-coring methods and resin-infusion techniques shaved weight without compromising strength, and fluids and mechanical systems were carefully positioned to create an optimum running attitude for the IPS drives.

The Regal team took similar care designing the boat’s living spaces, developing a two-stateroom, two-head floor plan that includes a separate stall shower forward and more than six linear feet of counter space in the galley.

The on-deck refrigerator, ice maker and electric grill transform the cockpit into a summer kitchen, while topside, passengers enjoy plenty of fresh air with the sunroof rolled back. But should the weather turn nasty, it takes less than 30 seconds to turn the upper deck into a weatherproof shelter.

Engine systems are easy to monitor and maintain through a small hatch. For complete engine access, the center section of the deck raises on an electric ram. Fuel, water and batteries are ideally positioned and balanced.

The 42 Sport Coupe handles turns with authority, with the nearflat, no-tabs running angle — even at lower planing speeds. Also, fuel economy increases speed, so skippers can accelerate without greatly accelerating fuel burn. Mission accomplished for the Regal team.
