Offshore and away from a constant flow of juice, a good long lasting light may be hard to find. The Jeep Dynamo Crank Light ($30,www.allthingsjeep.com) solves that problem. It has a built-in recharcheable battery when you have access to power. When you don't, turn the crank handle. One minute of cranking provides 15 minutes of bright light from the center LED. It also has two small outer lights, and the center bulb can function as a strobe. While it doesn't have enough candlepower to serve as a navigation aid in picking up inlet markers after dark, it's great for finding your way around the boat at night. The unit is water-proof and shock-proof, plus it floats. And it comes with an adapter that allows you to plug in and hand charge certain cell phones.
