Since August is the month of the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, let’s go back in time 13 years to the first boat that broke the 200 mph mark. In 2003, the turbine-powered Tencara catamaran, Callan Marine, was the first boat to break 200 mph at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, running 209 mph. Driver Dave Callan and throttleman John Cosker then spent the next five years wowing fans at the annual event, topping 200 mph on an annual basis. Cosker went on to start Mystic Powerboats, and his catamarans have held the top spot at the shootout, including the current record of 244 mph by the Spirit of Qatar.
