When the Factory 2 Class in offshore racing was in its prime, manufacturers were getting behind teams to help promote their product. In 2002, Tres Martin was the throttleman for Team Virgin and owner Todd Klindworth. The team started the season in a twin-stepped Cigarette 38’ Top Gun, but midway through, they switched to a 36’ Gladiator sit-down model. Some bottom-design changes including moving the steps and adding some rocker in the right places, which made the smaller boat more maneuverable. The team made up time in the turns and won the national championship for the class.
