[September 1, 2009]Aspen 26We Say: Here's evidence that killer efficiency is possible with an internal combustion engine pushing 26 feet of boat. Powered by a single 110 hp Yanmar diesel inboard, the displacement-hulled Aspen 26 burned 5.8 gph at 25 mph, netting a superthrifty 4.3 mpg. At slower speeds, it sips so little fuel that our test gear couldn't record it.
Deckspace abounds in the Aspen 26, but founder Larry Graf learned that customers wanted more length, so he made a 28-foot model available just before press time.

This boat is currently under a three-year restoration in which we pulled off the deck to replace the rotted transom, floor and stringers. We also added foam flotation under the floor compliments of a tech at Regal Boats. The gelcoat was so badly deteriorated we opted to create a black and parrot green scheme using Awlgrip and Interlux Perfection paints, hand rolled on. The boat cockpit will be finished in SeaDek non-skid flooring and the cracked windshield has been restored by Taylor Made, the original manufacturer of the windshield. It's due to launch Spring 2010.
