We Say: The round transom should draw stares. Besides providing Apreamare’s 32 Open with lines reminiscent of a classic launch, the aft end of this twin-inboard express cruiser is a feat of engineering: The zaftig shape transitions into a V that made neat work of Long Island Sound chop. It delivered a top speed of 31.1 mph. Dockside it displayed all the civility you’d expect from twin diesel inboards.

The 32 Open is one of the shippiest 32-footers I’ve tested. Dowel-fastened teak underfoot is bordered by a mahogany cap rail, and the side decks and bow are ringed by a bulwark — split forward for easy bow-to boarding. The anchor locker is large, but I wish its hatch were rung by a gutter to keep out spray. The anchor deploys through a chute.

Belowdecks, I was ensconced in wood milled so perfectly it might have been carpentered by elves. The mix of light-grain, bright counters, contrasting upholstery and the sun flooding through the massive, stainless-steel portlights induces comfort and ease. Viva la dolce vita!

Who’d Want One: Boaters seeking visible envy from guests and gawkers.

Another Choice: The Sabre 34 Hardtop Express is a twin-inboard cruiser cloaked in joinerwork.
