What engine do you have? Most have a beep when you turn the key to the "on" ( not ignition) position. As the gauges light up, this beep lets you know your engine alarm system is working. A loud alarm is a good thing, since you'd have to hear it with the engine running and the wind in your ears.
Since you're new, I'll tell you that marine engines have alarms for overheat, low oil, etc--many have different sequences of beeps for different alarms. But the tone is the same.
Does the beeping stop once you turn the key to "ignition" and the engine fires-up? If so, all is well.
However, if you still hear the alarm after the engine is running, shut it down and seek a qualified mechanic ( or at least a friend with real experience). Running hot or low on oil can ruin an engine pretty quick.
You'll get the gist of things--take it slow and enjoy the journey.
