Hi John and Lori
We produce Virtual Test Drives ("VTD"s)at the request of the manufacturer who pays a fee for us to produce and host it. That simple.
FYI Our boat tests, in the mag and on the web, are unsolicited and we pay the freight to travel to the boat, test it, and to produce the content.

Interesting, just always wondered. Sounds like a cool but at times wearing job.
There are usually anywhere between 3 and 5 "takes" for each feature discussed in the VTD's. And unlike filming ashore, we have to always re-position the boat so the light always looks the same. It gets real interesting on windy days---spin the boat, shut it off, run down the cabin "action!" Speak for 20 seconds. Then run topside and re-move the boat and do it again.
No complaints. Just saying...
Thanks for your interest.
Kevin
