Over the years and in different regions" bayboat" has had vatiations in meaning. But the current and most widely accepted definition includes these elements:
1. Low freeboard, center console cockpit arrangement
2. Modified V-hull with enough deadrise to handle chop, but not so much as to increase draft.
3. Outboard power.
These charachteristics make bay boats ideal for boaters plying "semi-protected" water, where they may have to run over a large expanse with a good fetch to reach a shallow water fishing destination.
A simpler definition might be: The offspring of the marriage between a center console and a flats boat.
