when i fuel my boat it backs up and cuts the pump off unless i barely trickle it in. is it the vent and if so how do i tell/change it?

Check the vent to see if it is blocked by anything, dirt, insects such as wasp nests. Take the hose off and blow through it to make sure it is not blocked. I have a friend that bought a new boat and the fuel line was crushed under the fuel tank.

hard to get to on most but yes check all lines. you could make a sleeve with rubber hose and slide over vent to blow thru. only problem if it's clogged then restriction now becomes bottom feed in your tank.
