I have a 1994 Scarab with a 502 Mag. I have no directional stability at idle. The steering is worn, but OK. Is this problem just inherent to the hull design or could it be something else? I'll appreciate any suggestions.

In this case SIZE does matter!! How big is your boat? Number 1 is if your steering is loose/ worn get it fixed asap!! Try trimming up your outdrive some and increase your rpms a little, this 2 things should help you out.

The one problem that deep Vs have is the slower you go the boat will wander and you have to correct it all the time, there is nothing you can do about it, I agree with the others if your steering is WORN REPLACE IT, in a go fast I'd hate to see it let go when you are flying along the water, and others are around, and for yourself,Now you dont say if you have twins but by you saying 502 mag I assume you only have a single and if thats the case deep Vs will wander, but do everyone a favour replace the worn parts before you kill someone please. :-)
