A trio of 25-inch-diameter tubes forms a high-performance running surface for the remarkable new MX 25 DL pontoon model from Starcraft Marine. Between each of the three tubes is an arched aluminum performance shield that reduces drag and quiets the ride while enhancing fuel efficiency, speed and handling. The result is a boat that is smooth and responsive while running at top speed, while cruising, and in sharp turns. We tested the 26-footer with a 250 hp Yamaha and were pleased to see a top speed of 38 mph — and the three-tube, HMX-equipped DL is capable of accommodating an additional 50 horses.

Topside, the MX 25 DL has a great layout for cruising, entertaining, or enjoying water sports, such as skiing or tubing. A double lounge at the transom converts to face either forward or aft. A large swim platform features a stainless-steel boarding ladder with four steps that lead to sturdy, stand-up handrails for easily getting back aboard after a refreshing swim.

Two comfortable, high-back captain’s chairs are offered amidships. Both swivel and feature fold-down armrests for comfort.

A padded tilt-and-lock steering wheel offers superb control, and a full-feature yet uncluttered dash includes a multifunction, flush-mounted touch-screen display to monitor gauges, check water depth and position, and control standard accessories, like a six-speaker, Bluetooth-enabled Clarion stereo system or navigation lights.

This new Starcraft MX pontoon model offers creative and convenient amenities, such as a handy bench-style seat on the aft starboard side of the cockpit that also serves as a large storage compartment. You will also find a canvas-enclosed changing room that pops out of the backrest of the forward lounge on the port side — perfect for slipping into a bathing suit on a warm summer day. The lounge itself is part of a large wrap-around seating area in the bow that beckons the crew to kick back, soak up the sun, and enjoy the ride.
