Volvo Penta Debuts New 2016 Engines

Next Generation Engines Promise Innovation and Performance

We were invited to an exclusive showing of new, 2016 Volvo Penta marine engines in Chesapeake Virginia and were shown these new " Next Generation" engines that will be powering boats in 2016. During a tour by Volvo Penta engineers, we saw firsthand some of the expertise and technology that went into the design and manufacture of these new marine engines. During sea trials, we got to feel, hear and run these new engines in a variety of boats.

Volvo Penta Next Generation Engine

Key Features

1. Industry-first direct fuel injection which contributes to better low-end torque and unmatched fuel efficiency

2. Lightweight all-aluminum block for unparalleled power-to-weight ratio

3. Standard closed cooling for more consistent internal temperature, longer life with no internal parts exposed to raw or salt water

4. Industry-first wideband oxygen sensors optimizing the engine for varying fuel quality and also reducing carbon monoxide emissions by 95 percent

5. Variable Valve Timing which optimizes torque throughout the full acceleration range

6. Standardization across full product line of marine gas engines with common parts and service points to reduce the number of parts dealers need to carry and simplify service and maintenance.

Look for our complete report on Volvo Penta' s new 2016 engines coming soon. In the meantime, here are images of the new engines along with some preliminary specs. You can also visit Volvo Penta's special website for these engines at http://www.volvopentanextgeneration.com/
