Chaco Kirkwood Sandal

Chaco Kirkwood Sandal

Chaco

Chaco Kirkwood Sandal
These have enough traction to work well on wet floors and pavement, but with a shallow, wide tread that never picks up grit or rocks. The rubber doesn’t scuff the deck, and the leather foot bed and thong straps make for a comfortable, snug fit that doesn’t slop around underfoot. I buy mine a half-size small for a closer fit around the toes — less chance to stub the sandal stepping up to the casting deck. They’re worth the money. $85, chacos.com

Fish Hippie

Fish Hippie Shadow Cast
Ok, so everybody is making a fishing shirt. Not everybody is making one for $89, though, and I had to try one on to see if it was worth it. We recently ran our boat from Skidaway River in Savannah, Georgia to Freeport Marina on Dafuskie Island South Carolina and then on to Skull Creek at Hilton Head. The temps started out in 80’s and sweltered to mid-90’s and unlike most fishing shirts, this nylon-poly blend really did breath, keeping me cool and sweat-free. When I washed it with everything else, it came through sans the grime of the day and looking as svelte as the day I unpackaged it. Low profile pearl snaps are rich and hidden button downs for the collar will make it a fly-fisher’s favorite. Please, suh, I’d like another! $89.50, fishhippie.com

He can change a light switch, strip the wire, trim it and screw the terminals tight all with this one tool. In the boat? He can tighten a hose clamp, remove a fish hook (hopefully from a fish) using the pliers. Camping? He can use the saw to cut kindling, the file to smooth those nasty toenails and the scissors to trim those gawdawful nose hairs. He can tighten sunglass hinges with the micro driver and measure your catch of the day in metric or English measurements. Leatherman will engrave it for you so your uncle can’t steal it. $89.95 (only $6.42 per tool), leatherman.com

West Marine

Third Reef Foul Weather Gear From West Marine
Dad's old, tattered foulies may well be by Third Reef. They are that popular. This newest rendition sports three layer technology that takes Third Reef 3L Jackets to a new level of waterproof, windproof and breathable performance. First, a nylon outer layer with a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finish causes rain and spray to just bead up and run off, plus it’s windproof to ward off body temperature-robbing wind. That layer is bonded to a waterproof, breathable laminated layer that does double duty by preventing water from entering from the outside, while also moving water vapor (perspiration) from inside the jacket to the outer layer where it can evaporate. In fact, this is our most breathable jacket yet. You'll stay more comfortable as your activity level increases. This layer is then bonded to a nylon tricot layer that provides benefits not found in two layer jackets. It increases breathability, allows for quick drying and offers a significant reduction in weight. $249, westmarine.com
