New Boats: Hatteras Building a 100-foot Yacht
Hatteras announced that it is building a 100-foot Raised Pilothouse that will be the flagship of its lineup. Belowdecks, the boat will have a four stateroom, four head layout. It will feature the stout solid fiberglass hull construction typical of Hatteras builds, and is scheduled to debut at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show in 2013.

Gear: McMurdo Releases Fast Find 220 Personal Locator Beacon
McMurdo is touting its new Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) as the latest and greatest in personal safety and rescue gear. ($299, It is waterproof to 10 meters, has GPS, and transmits a rescue signal for 24 hours at 5 watts. We have yet to review this item but it falls into the recent trend of smaller, faster PLBS on the market, such as the ACR Aqualink 406 GPS PLB and the soon-to-be-approved SATRO PLB-100.

This free new online service from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) gives you awesome maps of the world’s sea floors from trenches to continental shelves. This is worth any boater’s time, for the coolness factor alone. For more information, go to this NOAA link.
