Every dedicated angler who fishes big water knows that sometimes the best bite comes on the worst of days. If you’re one of those people, you want a boat that’s built like a brick house. Enter the Smoker Craft Phantom 20 X2 OS.
The largest model in Smoker Craft’s lineup, the Phantom 20 X2 OS is built like a tank. At first glance, you could mistake the boat for a fiberglass hull, but it’s made of heavy-gauge aluminum to withstand tough conditions. The OS in the name stands for “offshore”; it’s a dual-console multispecies boat made for fishing in exposed open water.
It just looks like it’s meant for big water. Even though it’s an open layout, the tall windshield with thick mullions resembles one found on a pilothouse boat. When it gets really sporty, snap on the Fisherman’s Top canvas and the side and drop curtains for even more protection. The boat’s no-nonsense interior is designed to withstand weather. Most of the hatches feature thick diamond-plate coverings that resemble the rugged boxes found in heavy-duty pickup trucks. The flooring is easy to clean, and the matching captain’s chairs at the helm and port console provide cruising comfort.
The Phantom 20 X2 OS can be powered by Mercury, Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki outboards from 115 to 250 hp. The engine mounts on a rugged offshore bracket that is wide enough to stand on for landing fish or to mount a separate kicker engine. The deep-V hull tapers to 19 degrees of deadrise at the transom. It is designed to run in rougher waters and still provide comfort to the captain and crew.
How do you want to fish this boat? Smoker Craft offers a variety of packages from Bert’s Custom Tackle, so you can set it up to your liking. You can get a series of rod holders that mount in the Integrated Tracking System, plus popular fishing accessories such as electric downriggers, rod trees, riser cradles and even extra cup holders. Add these great items to the standard rod holders in the gunwales, the fore and aft livewells, and the spacious open cockpit with toe kicks along the gunwales, and you’ve got one serious open-water fishing machine.
- Transom houses a huge fish box with a cutting board and a sink, as well as a separate built-in livewell.
- Sliding storage bench allows you to position it anywhere in the cockpit that you would like.
- Integrated Tracking System in the gunwales lets you mount rod holders and other fishing accessories from bow to stern.
- Raw-water washdown pump in the aft cockpit to port lets you quickly clean the decks.
