If you’re a powerboat racing fan, July Fourth weekend is an awesome time to check out one of two events on your bucket list. Offshore racing fans will flock to Sarasota, Florida, for the 30th annual Suncoast Offshore Grand Prix. I have watched and participated in this race, and the whole town embraces it wholeheartedly. If you’re in the country’s heartland and want to see boats fly on the Ohio River at 200 mph, head to Madison, Indiana, for the 2014 Madison Regatta. This town has owned and supported the Miss Madison Unlimited hydroplane for as long as I can remember. This event has a wholesome feeling that few powerboat races can match, so if you’re in the area, go watch these boats race deck to deck at mind-boggling speeds. You will be impressed.
