The “FE” in Sanpan’s 2500 FE Bar stands for “family entertainer,” appropriate given that the boat evokes the feel of an upscale family room. Forward, an L-shaped lounge sits to starboard; twin, high-back recliners are located to port. Recliner arms stay level, rather than pivot with the back — a thoughtful touch. Sanpan’s supple GX 50 vinyl and cushiony, pillow-top furniture add a classy look while providing all-day comfort. The upscale appeal continues with the honey-teak dash accents, aluminum panels featuring laser-cut labels, and illuminating LED backlighting.
The “Bar” in the name should be obvious, but this is no glorified cockpit sink and solid-surface countertop. It’s an actual wet bar, complete with storage drawers, backrest-equipped stools, footrests, LED-lit cup holders and Corian top, with cool pop-up speakers to provide the ambience. Add the optional stainless-steel Grillmaster grill and sink, and it’s party time.
Though power options run as high as 150 hp, our test boat was outfitted with a fuel-efficient Honda 115 outboard. It powered the boat onto plane in just over three seconds, en route to a top speed of 26 mph. At a comfortable 22 mph cruise, it burned a mere seven gallons per hour.
