Starcraft brings the brand’s Crossover styling — a dihedral-V hull below the waterline and a pickle-fork-style bow cockpit above — to an open, no-windshield model in the SCX 201. It’s ideal for the family who likes their wide-open space as well as a competitive price point. The 201 shares much in common with the 240 and 220 that precede it. That wide, deep bow features four individual corner seats. They fit nicely around a removable pedestal table, or can be morphed into traditional benches with the addition of port and starboard filler cushions. In the main cockpit, an L-shaped lounge spans the port side, as well as most of the transom. A starboard walk-through invites passengers aboard.

The aft bench backs up to its mirror image at the swim platform. This rear-facing seat offers a nice spot to relax when swimming at anchor, as well as a convenient perch to gear up for skiing or wakeboarding. Lower the forward-facing half of that backrest, and it converts into a tan-ready sun pad with open, Euro-influenced styling.

A catalyzed version of Volvo Penta’s 5.0 GXi powered our test boat. It provided enough brute force to push the boat onto plane in as little as 3.9 seconds. Thirty miles per hour was reached in 8.6 seconds en route to a top-end speed of 45.4 mph.
