On Thursday, February 16, Cigarette Racing Team and Mercedes-AMG unveiled their latest collaborative venture, the Cigarette 50-foot Marauder AMG that was inspired by the Mercedes-AMG GT R sports car. The two performance brands were celebrating 10 years of partnering with one-off boats at the Miami International Boat Show.
Cigarette Racing Team and Mercedes-AMG conspired to improve the 50-foot Marauder’s aerodynamics and power-to-weight ratio by using carbon fiber throughout the boat, saving more than 1,300 pounds. Additionally, the deck, cockpit and consoles were developed using advanced laminate analysis techniques and were manufactured from carbon fiber and foam core. The engine hatch is also fabricated from carbon fiber using vacuum-infusion technology. The cabin was designed after a race-style interior, and the electrical system went on a diet to save weight.
“Performance, perfection and passion are the values that unite Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing,” said Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes AMG GmbH. “Based on these values, eight sensational special editions have been created during our successful 10 years of collaboration, and the 2017 50-foot Marauder AMG presented here is a particular highlight among these. The new edition is thus a symbol for the 10-year partnership with Cigarette Racing as well as for Mercedes-AMG’s 50th anniversary.”
Cigarette Racing Team CEO Skip Braver added, “From the very beginning, we were confident that Mercedes-AMG would be the perfect partner as our companies both take great pride in our triumphant racing heritage and maintain a steadfast focus on pushing the limits of experience. It’s now an extremely proud moment to celebrate 10 years of working together and demonstrate the strength of our collaboration with Mercedes-AMG by unveiling our most impressive high-performance boat yet.”
The 2017 50-foot Marauder AMG is powered by a pair of Mercury Racing 1550/1350 QC4v engines and M8 drives. The dual fuel engines let the operator switch engine power levels with an electronic key fob. For the boat’s design, Cigarette enlisted Gorden Wagener, chief design officer for Daimler AMG, to design the paint and detailing. The interior seat inserts were crafted by the AMG Performance Studio. A special logo commemorating the 10-year partnership between Cigarette Racing Team and Mercedes-AMG is displayed on the boat’s bow. The distinctive Green Hell Magno paint details on the boat create a connection to the Mercedes-AMG GT R sports car.
