The Angler V17 SF is meant for serious fishermen who ply choppy waters and often venture out in inclement weather. A full windshield shelters the cockpit from breeze and rain, while the high freeboard handles chop and protects from spray. A stout, high transom avoids backsplash when back-trolling and handles a kicker.
Behind the windshield, we found two molded consoles with form-fitting vinyl surfaces, lending an automotive look. A compartment to port stows small gear, and a special mobile-phone holder is handy as well. We liked the lighted toggle switches for accessories since they keep you apprised of their operating status.
The Angler V17 SF offers two bucket seats and seven pedestal mounts standard, so you can configure the boat to suit your fishing style. Add an extra pair of seats for more family seating if you desire.
The Angler’s wide beam gives this deep-V model solid fish-fighting stability at rest and a comfortable stance when trawling for walleye.
The foredeck is prerigged for the trolling motor of your choice. An outboard trim switch adds more control from the bow. Also forward is ample tackle storage, with dedicated slots for Plano utility boxes. The hatches are designed to keep water out, so gear remains dry. At the step to the bow deck is a large center hatch that reveals rod storage, with four pairs of rod-butt and rod-tip holders to nestle tackle safely. A larger opening at the center of the compartment reaches far forward to the stem, allowing for longer rods.
We found two standard livewells on our tester. Each has both fill pumps for refreshing the tanks and recirculating pumps to add oxygenation. They are all automatic, so pumps draw power only when needed. The aft livewell is divided, providing space for keeping the catch alive on one side and keeping minnows, crawfish or other baits alive on the other.
The Angler V17 SF is fully fishable and comes complete with a boarding ladder for more relaxing days afloat.
