Davis Happy Troller

Achieve "tantalizing speed" with this trolling device.

November 12, 2010

Slow-trolling is deadly for walleye and other gamesters. Savvy anglers drag sea anchors or buckets or troll in reverse to achieve “tantalizing speed.” Others use a Davis Happy Troller.

This hinged, anodized aluminum device mounts to the anti-ventilation plate. A cable in the cockpit allows deployment to slow, slow, slow your boat. In the up position, it’s said to impart no additional drag and to minimize porpoising. Available in two sizes, one for outboards from 20 to 50 hp, the other for engines above 50 hp. $136; jamestowndistributors.com
