Preloaded software attempts to appeal to everyone and pleases no one, right? Not anymore. Garmin has preloaded this combination color GPS /chartplotter / fishfinder with more than 2,000 U.S. lakes, with a zoom-in shoreline detail to 32 feet. Included are depth contours, navaids, wrecks and obstructions, and a 3D display. (It includes many additional continental lakes with 164-foot shoreline detail.) The 4″-by-3″ unit has all the goodies: 400 watts (RMS) of power; positioning data with DSC-equipped VHF radios; water temperature log and graph; fish, depth, and battery voltage alarms; and Garmin’s new CANet, a Controller Area Network.
