The new Gen 2 case replaced LifeProof’s flawed Gen 1 last summer and fixed the sound-transmission screen sensitivity problems we found in the Gen 1. This plastic case cradled my iPhone like an egg carton and kept it protected against several high-impact drops on tiled concrete. All the touch-screen and tactile button functions of the phone are accessible through the case, and all work great — much better than Gen 1 did. The case interferes only slightly with touch sensitivity, and all buttons can be easily manipulated through the case. Waterproof headphones are an optional upgrade, but the unit comes with a dry ground adapter for regular headphones. And, yes, over and over, the case was waterproof.
