Go-Fast Blast From the Past: Donzi 38 ZRC

At its debut, the 38 ZRC looked like it was going fast when sitting still.

At the Miami Boat Show in 2002, then-Donzi CEO, Lee Kimmel, stepped to the podium and introduced a new model, saying that Donzi was going to win the 2003 world and national championships in the Factory 2 and Super Vee classes. After Donzi personnel pulled the black cloth off the 38 ZRC, it was easy to see why Kimmel was so confident.

With its twin-stepped bottom and quarter canopies for the open-top model, the sit-down hot rod looked like it was going fast when sitting still. The boat went on to win the Factory 2 class national championship in 2003 and 2004, and the national and world championships in the Super Vee class, which featured an enclosed-cockpit version of the boat, the same seasons.
