Virginia Dare II is a restored 1927 Gar Wood 33-foot gentleman’s runabout. Mark Bennett of Connecticut restored the boat and donated it to the Curtiss Museum in upstate New York. The original boat owner was the Garrett family, which plied the waters of Keuka Lake for many years. The boat was powered by a 500 hp converted Liberty aircraft engine and clocked more than 60 mph on the lake. The design is rumored to be a predecessor to the PT boats used in World War II.
