Since we’re talking about Nova’s new boat, we thought a boat from the original Nova Marine from the early days of performance boating in South Florida would be appropriate. Nova Boats president Jose Abella worked for Allan “Brownie” Brown at Nova Marine in the 1970s. Brown was the general manager at Donzi Marine when Don Aronow founded that company, but Aronow then sold his company to Teleflex so Brown decided to go out on his own. With financial support from offshore racing champion Bill Wishnick, Brown started Nova Marine, building twin-engine V-drive sportboats and performance boats.
The boats proved themselves on the offshore racecourse as well. Some of the famous names from the Nova factory included Broad Jumper, Boss O Nova and Brown’s personal boat, a 25-foot twin-engine hull with a single propeller called Super Nova. “It was the fastest boat of its time,” said Brown. “We didn’t win any races, but we came close.”
