Nor-Tech 3900 Super Vee

Wicked Sweet. Feed your need for speed.

Let me start by saying that I was incredibly impressed that Nor-Tech’s 3900 Super Vee planed at only 2000 rpm and 19.3 mph. It rides on a four-step bottom, which helps it run out to 112.2 mph, but it’s the transom notch that helps the boat plane so easily. The middle of the notch dips down 5″ with a section that’s about 6″ wide. When the water hits this middle section of the notch, it simply lifts the transom.

Lay on the throttles and the 800-hp Nor-Tech 850s pack serious midrange punch. I ran from 60 mph to 80 mph in 6.7 seconds and from 70 mph to 90 mph in 7.2 seconds. In maneuvers, the boat responded predictably at speeds exceeding 80 mph.

With foam coring and Kevlar reinforcement, the 3900 Super Vee’s solid construction gives the boat a secure feel. The cabin is a liner, and the hull-to-deck joint is bonded with fiberglass around the perimeter. The engines are installed in a short stagger with the starboard motor positioned slightly forward. Batteries are under step plates to starboard and fuel filters are on the bulkhead along with the IMCO steering reservoir.

In designing the cockpit, Nor-Tech made sure that the 3900 Super Vee’s 6′-by-7’8″ passenger area is bigger than the competition’s. A person can stand between the bolsters and bench even when someone is sitting in the back seat.

Of the full complement of Livorsi Marine instruments, the GPS/speedometer and volt and fuel gauges were located in the portside dash. To starboard, the driver can check a Garmin 3210 GPS/chartplotter as well as the balance of the instruments, which are arranged by priority.

The vastness of the 3900 Super Vee is evident when you head belowdecks. There’s ample headroom when you’re seated on the lounge or when you lie down on the V-berth. Whether it’s running 112 at top end, planing at 19.3 mph, or not moving at all, this boat is built to impress.
