We Say: Open from the helm aft, Nor-Tech’s Super 80 Roadster provides alfresco entertaining for 20 or so close friends at speeds in excess of 60 mph. Quite a departure from most performance yachts, which feature deckhouses. The payoff: fun in the sun.

Topside, there’s a wet bar large enough for six to elbow up and a radar mast that extends telescopically. Walking the layout, I found unique and separate spaces for guests to congregate. Luxury abounds, including teak decks, upholstery and the clearcoat automotive paint that covers every surface. This finish is mirrorlike but not as scratch-resistant as marine LP paints. An ingeniously hidden Bimini top deploys for inclement weather.

With 18 hull-side windows, skylights and eight feet of headroom, the Super 80 Roadster feels open belowdecks too. The triple-stateroom, triple-head plan includes a wine locker, a galaxy of designer lighting and even a color-matched dog bed that Nor-Tech made for the owner of the boat I tested.

Running in three- to five-foot seas, the double-stepped, Super 80 Roadster cleaved through foam-streaked rollers and begged for more, yet sound levels and wind-blast remained minimal in the cockpit.

Who’d Want One: Those seeking fast transport for a black tie affair.

Another Choice: The 78-foot Baia Atlantica ($7 million with twin 2,030 hp MTU 16V2000 M91 diesel surface drives) offers a hardtop.

Bottom Line: $4.9 million (base); nor-techboats.com
