Premier is the pontoon builder known for pushing the envelope on design, layout and performance, and the new 290 Grand View shows exactly why. I can’t think of another pontoon boat with a design that’s this, well, grand.
The first thing you’ll notice is the profile, because the Liberty helm is raised two-and-a-half feet off the deck. This puts the captain well above the heads of crew and other obstructions, similar to the helm stations aboard a fiberglass sport cruiser.
You’ll notice that Premier took full advantage of the 10-foot-2-inch beam, which earns the boat its “10 Wide” status. Just forward of the helm, Premier installed a Bombay bar, featuring a built-in insulated cooler and a Corian countertop. The sofas up front have shock-absorbing Flexsteel supports.
If you head aft from the raised helm, rounded Flexiteak-lined steps reminiscent of a megayacht lead down to the swim platform. Three built-in aluminum steps off the center tube make for the best water access I’ve seen.
The center tube is part of the PTX Performance package that helped this boat get the most out of twin 300 hp Evinrude E-TECs. On test day, we hopped on plane in 3 seconds, reached 30 mph in a blistering 4.9 seconds, and topped 52 mph.
