Rejuvenate Deckplate O-Rings

A temporary fix for a common problem.

The O-rings that seal deck hatches and deckplates like this “pie eye” shown need to be checked and replaced as they age and wear if they are to keep water out of our stowed gear, fuel and potable water supplies and bilge. Replacement O-rings can be ordered from the hatch manufacturer, the name of which is usually embossed on the underside of the lid. But for the short term, a blast of spray lubricant can swell a due-to-be-changed O-ring enough to bring it back to life while you wait for the replacement to be shipped from the supplier.
