Icom VHF Radio Tips: Microphone Protocol

Check out these tips from Boating’s West Coast and Electronics editor, Jim Hendricks.

One of the most important marine accessories boaters can keep aboard is a VHF marine radio. Whether it is a built-in model, or a handheld radio, like the one used to illustrate the tips provided in this episode, a VHF radio provides safety and convenience beyond that which can be provided by a cellular phone.

For example, the VHF radio used in this video is waterproof and floats. Also, a VHF radio can be used to communicate to any other boat with a VHF radio, the US Coast Guard, bay constables, harbormasters, towing companies and other safety organizations, all without needing to know a phone number.
