Fabio Buzzi will attempt the Bermuda Challenge in this 39-foot boat of his own design.

But Fabio Buzzi is determined to break the Bermuda Challenge record of 21 hours and 39 minutes set by Chris Fertig and Tyson Garvin aboard their Mercury TDI diesel-powered Statement Marine 37 in August.

Buzzi plans to make the 760-mile crossing from New York City to Gates Fort, Bermuda on Friday, September 28, 2012. He has scheduled a 3 a.m. departure time.

Can he do it? Buzzi already holds numerous world and race records. He will be making this attempt aboard 39-foot boat of his own design, powered by surface drives of his own design.

The boat’s particulars are as follows: 39.9” long; weight 9 tons; powered by two FPT 650HP engines.

The boat also has a full canopy, which will make it ideal for running in the beam seas the current forecast indicates.

In addition to Buzzi, two members of the Italian Special Forces will be aboard as crew.
