G3 Boats’ partnership with Yamaha has made it perhaps not the largest aluminum-boat company, but one of the most reliable. So when we had a chance to jump aboard its triple-tube Sun Catcher X322 RF, we had high expectations. These were met.

The 150 Yamaha skimmed three solid .100-gauge double-plated pontoons across the water while we sat, pampered in the reclining captain’s chair enjoying the bird’s-eye view. With hydraulic steering, we spun the wheel and the X322 RF came around like a sporty deck boat. Punching the throttle, we hit 20 mph in a scant and speedy 4.4 seconds.

For easy maintenance, the helm station is fiberglass-reinforced ABS plastic, and the marine plywood deck is covered with marine-grade vinyl for easy cleanup — a plus on this one, which was equipped to fish. Also for the angler is a livewell, rod holders, aft casting chairs and a Garmin Echo 200 fish finder.

But this fisher isn’t one-dimensional. An optional tow pylon and reboarding platform enhance water sports. Spacious lounges and couches pamper a big crew. There’s even a freshwater sink and a privacy chamber for changing, or for equipping with a head.
