Mercury Racing has signed on as the presenting sponsor of the Powerboat P1 SuperStock outboard racing series for the 2017 season. The one-design, single-engine race series features identically rigged 28-foot P1 Panther V-bottom race boats.

The Mercury Racing 300XS outboard is the exclusive power for the 2017 Spectre P1 SuperStock USA Championship. The low-emissions, two-stroke engine replaces the Evinrude E-TEC outboard in this class. The 300XS is designed to endure the harsh offshore racing environment and features a V-6 powerhead with direct fuel injection (DFI) coupled to a robust midsection fitted with a heavy-duty swivel-clamp bracket assembly and race-proven Sport Master gear case. Precision-matched Mercury Racing propellers will ensure that each boat realizes its maximum performance.

“Powerboat P1 is a rich part of our racing heritage,” says Mercury Racing General Manager Erik Christiansen. “We are excited to feature our 300XS outboard in this highly competitive, one-design racing environment, where setup and skill are key to winning.”

The switch to Mercury Racing power may enhance the performance of the P1 Panther race boats competing in the series.

“The performance of the P1 Panther with the 300XS is outstanding,” says Spectre P1 SuperStock USA Championship spokesman Martin Sanborn.

“Acceleration and top speed are dramatically improved, and the tracking and handling are crisp and nimble. It feels like a new boat.”
