Miami Marlins star pitcher, Jose Fernandez, was killed in a boating accident early this morning, according to published reports, including that by the Miami Herald.
A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Miami was heading out on a law enforcement patrol at approximately 3:30 a.m. Sunday when they passed a jetty along Government Cut and discovered an overturned 33-foot center console boat on the jetty with three deceased aboard.
The other victims were identified as male, but their names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The boat was found atop the tip of the north jetty that defines the entrance to Government Cut, the main inlet into Miami from the Atlantic Ocean. Initial reports indicate that a high rate of speed contributed to this accident.
