Sunscreen for Boaters

Is all-natural sunscreen any good?

There’s page-after-page of sunscreen and sun protection info for boaters here.

My two kids have the “map of Ireland on their faces” (as the saying goes.) That’s a source of pride for Mary and me, but makes it especially important that our boating family use sunscreen regularly. Solar Aegis SPF 30 kept the skin of my two daughters white as the snow in the meadow (as the song goes) boating 3 to 4 times per week during one of the hottest July droughts in U.S. history.

Solar Aegis is an all natural sunscreen that smells nice, and doesn’t leave a white residue like many other lotions, a fact that an olive-skinned friend who boats with us says is important.

My bottom line: It works great, but it’s pricey.

Solar aegis is available in a 2.5-ounce tube ($12.00) that fit in a drink holder atop my helm with room to spare. Larger sizes available. www.solaraegis.com
