Ilmor Marine
Ilmor Marine, the marine V8 engine builder best known for powering performance boats or ski, wake and surf boats for manufacturers such as Mastercraft, recently celebrated the production of its 10,000th engine. The engine, an MV8 6.0L block, rolled off the line at the company’s Mooresville, North Carolina facility.
“Today is the culmination of nearly a decade’s worth of effort on our recreational marine engine series, which began well before our first MV8 was built in 2010,” said Paul Ray, president of Ilmor Engineering, via press release.
Ilmor builds MV8 engines in 5.7L, 6.0L, 6.2L and 7.4L variants, using Ilmor-developed parts and systems designed to increase overall performance and reliability of the GM engine blocks. They are available in both fresh water and salt water ‘Ocean Performance Series’.
Although the company is mostly known in performance and tow sports circles, we recently had the opportunity to run one in a Chris-Craft Capri 21. Stay tuned for the official numbers, but it’s safe to say the boat had some juice, and the engine gave off a throaty growl that indicated it had power to spare.
