Bermuda Challenge Update

Fertig's Cummins MerCruiser Powered Statement Marine 37 Readies for a Retry

Chris Fertig, whose first attempt at the Bermuda Challenge was aborted due to a freak storm in 2011, readies for another go at the 760-mile voyage from New York City to Bermuda. If he makes it, his Statement Marine 37 will be the first sterndrive-powered boat to complete the Bermuda Challenge.

We caught up with Fertig in Virginia: ” They (Cummins Mercruiser Diesel) are dialing in my engines and I am having new suite of electronics installed. When that’s done, I’ll stage the boat in New York, watching for a weather window, and will depart at the first opportunity after May first.”

We’ll report on the upgrades to Fertig’s boat, which will include streaming video technology, allowing you to ride along with the CMD-powered Statement Marine 37 when he makes the attempt.
