We know it’s tough. You’ve been a go-fast guy for years but now your domestic situation — wife, kids, chocolate lab — requires something a little more family friendly. The solution? Take a look a Baja’s hot new 335.

It has offshore-style bolsters in the cockpit and big-block engines under the hatch. The boat runs 63.5 mph with a pair of 425-hp 496 MAG HO Bravo Ones and would make a comfortable poker runner.

Planing at around 20 mph, the 335 ably pulls tow toys. You won’t find a boat that handles more predictably out on the lake or bay. Around the docks, the power of the big-block engines lets you make this boat dance to whatever rhythm you lead it into. Another benefit of a cruiser built by a go-fast manufacturer is stout construction. The 335 is built with end-grain balsa coring and a molded stringer and bulkhead grid. What’s more, the engines are installed on through-bolted aluminum L-angles with backing plates. The engine hatch comprises most of the aft cockpit sole and provides outstanding access to the motors. Rigging includes stainless-steel cushioned clamps and features more detail than you’d expect from a ho-hum cruiser.

With the hatch closed, the lounge wraps around to port, providing comfortable seating with dedicated space for a cooler underneath. To starboard is a small wetbar.

Up front, there’s a glovebox in the port dash and a helm to starboard that features Livorsi Marine instruments and controls. Gauges and engine controls of this quality are not normally found on family cruisers. Neither are mechanical trim indicators.

Steps built into the cabin hatch lead forward onto the deck, where you’ll find a recessed windlass and a molded cutout for an extra line. Belowdecks, the forward lounge becomes a V-berth, and a glovebox-style hatch provides access to the anchor-chain box. The salon lounge converts to a second berth when unexpected company decides to stay for the weekend. And given the 335’s all-around package of performance and comfort, most people will likely stick around as long as they can.
