Evinrude E-TEC Pontoon Series
The popularity of our favorite style of boats has grown to the point that pontoons now have their own line of outboards. BRP recently announced that it is offering a new engine lineup called the Evinrude E-TEC Pontoon Series. The new pontoon-specific outboards come in 90, 115 and 150 hp, and the 90 hp engine comes in two models, the E90SL and E90NL, which are geared for larger pontoon applications.
According to Jason Eckman, Product Manager for BRP’s Marine Propulsion Systems Division, the new Evinrude Pontoon Series incorporates a variety of new features specifically designed to improve the performance of pontoon boats.
“From a power standpoint, we’ve incorporated a new gear ratio that improves low-end thrust and allows for a larger selection of propellers,” said Eckman. “In addition, we introduced a new software file that will enhance engine performance at idle and low speeds, which are typical of pontoon use. We’ve also addressed the unique vibrations associated with pontoon boats by using specially designed motor mounts to reduce vibration. Finally there is an optional remote oil tank which allows both easy access and up to 200 hours of use on a single tank.
“With the increased popularity of pontoon boats,” he continued, “we feel an engine line-up specifically tailored to pontoon applications will enhance the boating experience for a large and growing segment of boat owners.”
Eckman explained that expectations of pontoon boat performance continue to evolve with improving technology. As part of that trend they’ve noticed the average horsepower of pontoon boats has been increasing year after year.
“The Evinrude E-TEC Pontoon Series is available in 90hp, 115hp and 150hp,” he continued. “Which puts this line-up right at the heart of that growth and new consumer demand.”
I can’t wait to put the new ‘rude Pontoon Power through its paces. I’ll keep you posted.
Meanwhile, here are some shots of the outboards in action, sporting the new look exhibited on all the new E-TEC engines from Evinrude.
