Sea-Doo teased a hotrod version of their RXP-X 300 speedster earlier this year, putting F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo in the saddle for a high-speed romp around Miami. As summer waned, we got our own turn at the controls.

The scoop? It’s still the RXP-X 300, a craft that turns harder than almost any other PWC on the market and banks steeply in the process. It’s a G-force-inducing ride, one that Sea-Doo keeps the pilot in control of with some clever ergonomic touches, including an hourglass-shaped saddle and inwardly canted footwell chocks that combine to get a rider’s legs into the act and take much of the strain off the upper body. In short, the driver feels one with the boat, an admirable trait when you consider the craft’s 300hp, supercharged Rotax engine accelerates brutally out of the hole and pushes the craft to 68 mph on the top end.

The APEX doesn’t change that formula but does improve the quality of the ride. A new hydraulic steering damper takes the twitchiness out of the craft’s ultra-responsive steering while reducing the rough-water feedback that travels from hull to handlebars. The adjustable damper, controlled via a dial at the base of the steering column, has three different settings to accommodate rider preference or match water conditions.

Add Launch Control, an electronic takeover of the craft’s variable trim that does a surprisingly good job of finding that perfect trim angle to further improve acceleration and limit porpoising, and the result is a high-performance ride that will satisfy both performance-minded recreational riders and race types alike. Sea-Doo chose a deep, British-inspired Racing Green for the craft’s colorway, adding a carbon fiber hood cover and mirrors for both coolness factor and weight savings. Other standards include Bluetooth audio and a display that integrates with the BRP GO app and includes nautical charts from Navionics. Of course, performance comes at a price, in this case an industry-topping $20,999. For those fat stacks, however, buyers get a true Limited Edition model only available this model year. That is, if they act fast. The ordering window ends November 30th.
