Sum, sum, sum summertime wear!
When summertime hits, the boating waters are warm and the heat and humidity tries to shove you back inside when you open the front door, my daily wardrobe must be ready to fend off the scorch and be ready for boating, fishing, swimming and waterfront burger joints. Huk and a new shoe company called Fishooz sent me a few things that are now my go-to’s for a sweltering day outdoors.

Pursuit Volley Swim Shorts
I start with a pair of shorts that are street sharp, water ready and quick drying should I venture from water to sidewalk or dockside diner. The 6-inch short has a liner, a drawstring, two front pockets and a hip wallet pocket that latches with hook and loop fasteners. I can slip my iPhone 15 Pro Max into any one of them. They come in nine solid and nine print colors, so you won’t have any trouble finding a couple pairs that get your groove on. $40; huk.com

KC Kona Button Down
A shirt must fit loose in the summertime. I like mine to billow a bit in a breeze, working like a fan to keep me cool. The fabric of this shirt is far more breathable than the tightly woven techy fish shirts that cover like plastic wrap and soft, flexible, stretchy feel is exactly right for the beach, sidewalk or dock party. They come in eight colors from lightly contrasting prints to luau-ready, fish-themed prints. They’re sized generously from small to XXX-large. $45; huk.com

Pursuit Performance Polo
Oh, now this is as soft as a mother’s touch, flexible as a Circ du Soleil acrobat and as sharp looking for casual waterfront wear as a tux and cummerbund is for formal dining with the cruise ship captain. They come in 15 colors with stripes, prints, and solid grey and light blue. $41.25; huk.com

Fishooz Sunwashed Men’s Slip-On
I gotta be able to kick my kicks off and step back into them at a whim. The soles won’t pick up grit and gravel and they won’t mar the boat, making them ideal deck shoes. These Fishooz Sunwashed Slip-Ons come in six colors including black, white, grey and more. I slipped the washable insole out of mine, added an orthopedic insole—there was plenty of room—and they help me navigate the deck, dock and sidewalk or mall in comfort. $54.95; dryshodusa.com

Hobie Commander Shades
What’s not to love in these polarized, neutral grey lenses providing perfect color transmission, curved for a non-distorted view all in a classic squared aviator design with a super lightweight alloy frame and polymer temples? On the water, the view beneath the surface glare enhances navigation and relieves eye strain. They look sharp and are available in gunmetal frames with grey lenses ($89.99) or satin gold with copper lenses ($99.99). Lens dimensions are 57 mm, bridge is 15mm and temples are 141 mm meaning they are a versatile fit for full coverage on most faces. Best part? They’re warranted for life to the original purchaser and if you do lose them, the moderate price won’t break your heart, not as badly as competitors for $200-$300, anyway. $89.99-$99.99; hobieeyewear.com
