Garmin has extended the range of live sonar to unprecedented distances. The new LiveScope XR live sonar can boom out to 500 feet in fresh water and 350 feet in salt water whether used in Forward, Down or Perspective mode. In freshwater applications, that’s about 200 feet more than the current generation of Lowrance Active Target live sonar and 400 feet more than Humminbird’s Mega Live sonar.

The LiveScope XR System includes a compact GLS 10 black box with a LiveScope XR LVS62 transducer, along with a trolling-motor barrel and shaft mounting kit, Perspective mount bracket, and a simple plug-and-play Garmin Marine Network connector for easy installation and integration with compatible Garmin MFDs.

A key to the increased range is the larger LVS62 transducer than previous LiveScope iterations. It also uses a lower frequency to extend range, but that results in slightly less resolution. With a free software update, the transducer ($2,499.99 when sold separately) can be added to an existing LiveScope black box for anglers who want to upgrade.

The LiveScope XR system retails for $2,999.99 and is compatible with a wide range of Garmin GPSMap and EchoMap chart plotters and combo units. To learn more, visit garmin.com.
