John Travolta will star as legendary offshore powerboat racer and manufacturer Don Aronow in the upcoming movie Speed Kills. The biopic will chronicle Aronow’s fascinating life in powerboat racing and manufacturing. Aronow founded such companies as Donzi, Cigarette Racing and Formula, among others.
Regarding his upcoming role, Travolta was quoted as saying, “I like biopic films. They are fascinating to me, and real-life characters are always interesting to play. … This is a great story.”
The film will be directed by John Luessenhop, whose credits include Texas Chainsaw 3-D and Takers. “Once I started learning about Don Aronow’s life, I jumped at the opportunity to bring this story to the big screen,” the director said. “John Travolta is the perfect actor to bring Aronow’s story to life.” Paul Castro, a writer with close personal ties to the Aronow family, is consulting on the script.
Travolta is no stranger to movies that feature performance boats. In the film Face/Off, he and Nicholas Cage had a great chase scene in a pair of Wellcraft Scarab 23 SCS boats.
